Our brave and trusted ski patrol at local mountain Lost Trail Powder Mountain is having several fundraisers next week that we are donating beard oil, apple pie filling, and a special auction item - Get Well Herbal Health Spa Gift Basket. The Pint night at Bertram's Brewery in Salmon, ID is on Feb. 22, 2017 from 5-9pm and the Lost Trail Steak Fry is the afternoon of Feb. 25th, up at the mountain! The Ski Patrol is a hardy set of people (see the feature photo of Jim and Jim, both in their 80's and some of the most experienced set of patrollers on the mountain!) They are at the ready all day as they ski to handle any emergency that occurs, whether it be a kid who lost track of their parent, someone buried in an avalanche, or someone who hit a rock and broke their femur (really happened a few weeks ago).
This avalanche in Southeastern Idaho was triggered by heavy snow on top of weak layers in the snowpack - The same phenomena we have seen around Salmon a couple weeks ago! Thankfully the ski patrol is in charge of assessing the avalanche danger, setting off charges so avalanche conditions don't develop, and responding in case one does occur.
Be sure to get a raffle ticket at Bertram's Brewery Pint Night Feb. 22nd or Lost Trail Steak Fry on Feb. 25th and win "4 Thieves" Beard Oil by Sweet Belly Farm, or Apple Pie Filling - a canned product with local apples that is ready to pour into a pie shell and bake!
We farmers love to ski and stay safe during the winter! Thank you Ski Patrol!
